I'm sure it's good to be home, mess and all. You'll soon have things ship-shape (sorry for the pun) and livable again. Your kitties are probably sooo happy to have you home again. Rhoda

Saturday
Well they are starting to make the preparations to go home.. not soon enough in my opinion. Yuma isn't a bad place.. it's not a bad town at all and it has a cracker barrel resturant and that makes it all the better. If we had a cracker barrel in San Diego life would be great. Now that I know its only 3 hours away from me I may just make the trip here to go to cracker barrel.. lots of secret sister ideas there that is for sure.
So tonight we are inspecting aircraft to be able to send them home. In other words unless things get broken I have absolutely nothing to do.
I do have the quilt pink magazine that Jen was talking about in her blog. I haven't had the chance to look at it but I paid the $15 for the ability to look at it when I have the chance. I bought it the day I went home because we couldn't find it hear in Yuma.
Oh Jen had asked about what VMFAT-101 was .. It's Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron. The V just means that its fixed wing. So I looked it up and I am infact in the same squadron that your dad was in. Here is the website for the squadron history http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VMFAT-101 here are some other pictures of the squadron http://image.flymcaa.org/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=285&g2_navId=x8b4d8ae8 . Don't get me wrong I love my job I really do but I am just tired of working hard and feeling like I'm going no where. That and being punished for the stupidity of others. There is alot of things that I will miss about being in the military.. perhaps the one I will miss the most is not having to pick out and iron clothes for work.. it's so easy to just grab a pair of cover alls from the laundry and go. Maybe I will get my fill 1 weekend a month.. ha ha ha
Hope everyone is having a great week

Todays Update
The fires are getting better or so I have heard I haven't had the chance to watch tv or really look anything up on the news.. maybe because it just doesn't make me feel any better. I have heard that they are now acessing my area.. I'm not on the destroyed list so far so I'm feeling a little better about things. My kitties are at Amandas house.. that would have been great if I could have brought them back here.. actually it really would have brought things home to these people.. ha ha ... last time I talked to amanda Lilly was still tormenting her guniea pigs.. I'm not sure what her facination was with them other than that they were little like her. Thelma and Louise I'm sure didn't mind that she was busy because that ment she wasn't bothering them. They were all very cuddly for the night that I was home... made coming back hard but at least I know they didn't forget me when I was gone.
Believe it or not I had my sewing machine in the back of my truck when I went to yuma because I thought that I was going to be able to use it ... so its safe.. smiles. The fabric though it meant alot is replaceable.. As long as my street stays off that destroyed list I'll be ok with the exception of smoke damage... we know of at least one window that got left open by accident. There were reports of looters in Ramona too but we're hoping that since I live so close to the sheriff station that people wouldn't be that stupid.
I wish that there was more to write about but my head is kind of in a fog .. Seven more days and I can go home.. Hopefully I'll be able to take some time off.

It will be nice to get home again, see what's going on there, be among your familiar things and not crowded together in an apartment. Kevin was supposed to fly to LA this weekend for training but the funds got cancelled, so he's staying in Hawaii. I heard the San Diego base was evacuated. Did you hear that too? Rhoda

My fingers are staying crossed for you. I'm glad the kitties and the machine is safe. You know that you have enough friends that should your fabric be smoke damaged we'll all happily send you some stash! =) -Jen www.cre8tivequilter.blogspot.com

I'm glad too that the kitties are OK. Just keep in mind like Jen said there are enough of us that we'd be able to replace your stash really easy. Hey that's great you're on the short list for leaving.

San Diego Fires
I haven't been online in a few days things have been pretty crazy around here. Sunday I received a phone call from the girl that was watching my apartment to tell me that there was a fire in the town about 30 miles away and that they thought due to the wind that it was headed to Ramona (where I live). I notified my chain of command in Yuma arizona.. to make a long story short they waited until about 630 pm before giving me the okay to go back to San Diego (or what I though was the okay... another long painful story) I headed back to san diego only to arrive just as they were mandatory evacuating everyone... and wouldn't let me back up the canyon to my apartment. My friend was kind enough to get up there to get my kittys when she had the chance and she barely had the ability to get them before they told her she had to leave. So I'm safe, the kitties are safe and the apartment well that at this point is anybodys guess. I was told by some one else that they thought the apartment was okay but until I can get in there and see for my self its one of those things you just have to hope for the best. Currently I am headed back to Yuma they command there decided that I could not wait to be let in to check things out... they said I have to wait until they release me which at this point is anybodys guess. I will probably be here another 2 weeks if not more because they want to be in my opinion stupid about the whole situation. My parent command (VMFAT-101) on the other hand is trying to convince the people here in Yuma that it is important to let us go so crossing my fingers that some one shows some common sense.

Oh Heather, what a mess! I'm so sorry about everything that has gone on. As a quilter I have to say "What about your machine, all your fabric, your quilting toys!" But of course, the good news is that your kitties are fine. Everything else can be replaced. I was looking at pictures of the Malibu area because Kevin went to Pepperdine law school. We saw several pictures of that area. The church he attended while in school there was totally destroyed by fire. Can you buy fire insurance there? Rhoda

Heather, what is VMFAT-101? My dad was in VMFA-101 when he was stationed in Yuma. Or I guess...what's the difference? Or is everything in Yuma VMFA something-101? God, I hope your APT is ok. I'm SOOOO glad your kitties got out. Now what are you going to do with them in Yuma? Do you have a place for them?

What a mess but I'm glad that the kitties got out safe. When I was first married we were stationed at the air base in Yuma. My husband was part of the VMFA-101 and was a radar technician on the F4B. Phantom. The military can always be funny when they want to be. While you're there are you living in the enlisted barracks? For some reason I can still remember out address which was 1837B. S. W. Loop Road. They were great when we were there because they were fairly new. Hang in there.

Eureka!!!
Well today I hit the jackpot.. Between myself and about 5 or 6 other people we decided that I just needed to take the computer back to Circuit City and have them look at it and tell me what was wrong. I know I'm not computer stupid and just couldn't figure out why the new computer wouldn't hook up to the net. So today I went to Circuit City told them the problem and that I thought that it was a faulty component in the computer and they played with it for about 45 minutes before they decided that I was right. The network card was faulty or something. So they exchanged my computer gave me a new one. Low and behold I am on the internet to let you all know that I am now connected to you where ever I go (that I can get wireless that is). I was pretty excited.
We also went over to JC Penny to pick up a formal dress to wear to Phil's Marine Corps Ball. That is going to be fun despite the fact that I have to wear a dress. He loved the dress and then picked out shoes for me to boot... more power to him I love my boots and jeans.. smiles.
I got word today that we MIGHT be able to go home on the 31st. That would be super great. I could go home and go rent some scary movies.. order pizza and spend time with my meows.. and maybe get some sewing in too... I am waiting very impatiently to go home and be able to sew.
So what is everyone else working on? I haven't got to read too many blogs because of my limited time on the internet so I guess I have a lot of catching up to do... Smiles

I'm so glad that you had good results with your computer. And now there's no stopping you. You've been missed around here. Oh the Marine Corp Ball what a fun time that was. We went to a house party and then off to the ball itself. Lots of fun. If someone wants you to drink what appears to be pink lemonade just remember that I warned you first. They used to make what were called pink god damns ( sorry but that was their name) and they went down just like regular lemonade until you had to stand up. We even snuck a cooler of them into the ball with us. We had the happiest group there. I bet those kitties are missing you alot. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get to go home early. Cindy
